Exosomes for Drug Delivery

Did you know that exosomes are nanosized biological capsules found in milk? These capsules can deliver drugs and therapeutics in the bloodstream without breaking down. They can even access the brain barrier to combat brain cancer.

Scientists in Gourdie’s laboratory at Virginia Tech have developed a method to extract exosomes efficiently from milk for drug delivery.

Perhaps in the future, vaccines can be administered with a glass of milkshake mixed with exosomes rather than a needle shot.
